Go Upstars is a brand new free to play game that, in my opinion, deserves your attention because it’s fun, well suited for travel and easy to learn but difficult to master.

The gameplay is really simple to understand, you tap the screen and the ball you play as (in the picture above it has a snowflake skin) moves to the next star. The difficult part is that you need to time the start of the ball’s movement to get it to the next star safely without getting hit by a moving obstacle. Because you only need to hold the phone with one hand and tap the screen with one finger at a time, the game is good for situations like traveling by bus or train when you sometimes need to hold onto something with your other hand.

There are also skins, unlocked by purchasing them with stars, by achieving a certain highscore or by completing enough challenge levels. The skins are not just cosmetic though, each one has it’s unique ability which alters the gameplay in some way.

Besides skins you can also unlock other colour schemes, which don’t have any effect on gameplay, but they’re cool.

There are currently 16 challenges and the standard endless mode. Both are progressively getting more difficult.

Go Upstars is free to play, you can watch ads for bonus stars or revives but you aren’t forced to do so.

PROS

• can get frustrating if you can’t react quickly enough, but there’s a skin for that too
