Tetris is with us for many years and has been published on many platforms including android phones. In this review I’ll have a look at 3 different versions you can choose from. Emulators offer many more possibilities but I’ll talk about native android ports this time.
The good: Techmino
Techmino is not an official tetris game, but it’s the best android tetris you can get even though it’s a fan game. It’s free to play, easy to control and offers lots of various gamemodes, from the classic marathon and sprint to endles, pentominos, triominos, invisible and much more. you can play with gamepad too if you want to and hide the on-screen controls.
Techmino is free to play with no ads or in app purchases. Techmino is also not on google play.
PROS
- gamepad support
- tetrimino customization
- controls layout customization
- free without ads and IAP
- lots of modes
- custom game options (make your own mode)
CONS
- some people may preffer portrait mode to landscape and thus won’t like techmino’s layout

The bad: EA Tetris
Probably the most well known classic android tetris. Calling it bad is a bit of an overstatement, I used to think that back at the day but now when the new android tetris is on google play I wish for this to come back. In this version you have, as you can see from the photo, the classic marathon mode and galaxy puzzle. You can get coins by playing and use them to revive if you fail or to buy new music, although the music part no longer works unfortunately. the game is played on portrait and controled by gestures.
There are no longer any ads or IAP.
PROS
- The classic android tetris. if you played mobile tetris between 2011 and 2019 you played this one.
- simple controls (I still prefer techmino controls though)
- galaxy puzzles are fun
- completely free now
CONS
- hard to get these days
- can’t buy music anymore
I can’t unfortunately provide a link for this one, they’re hard to find and some of them suspicious, you’ll have to search for yourself if you want this one.
The ugly: Tetris by playstudios inc
The current tetris. the one so filled with IAP and ads so much that I wanted the EA tetris to come back. It sucks if your game has more IAP than an EA game. At first everything looked alright, a few customization options, no ads and stuff. Then I didn’t play for about 5 months and when I returned I saw what you can see now if you play it. Stupid levels, ads everywhere, customizations hard to get, login broken so I couldn’t even recover my old account after literally signing in with it.
This version of tetris is free to play with IAP and lots of ads.
PROS
- controls like the EA tetris, no need to get used to new layout
- The first version was fun and good
CONS
- lot of ads and IAP
- broken login system
- can’t be played offline well
- the levels. I really didn’t download tetris to watch an ad, clear 10 lines, finish the level and watch more ads, just give me the damn endless.
