Pirates Outlaws is an indie roguelike card game in which you navigate dangerous seas and challenge their masters. Your expedition will be full of ambushes and will not be easy. 16 Heroes | More than 700 Cards and 200 Relics | 150+ Oultaws and 60+ unique bosses. 3 game modes can be enjoyed.

You can play Pirates Outlaws on probably every possible platform, consoles, pc, android and ios.

stage map

The main gamemode consists of navigating through one of several possible locations, each being made of 3 stages. Each stage has events, fights, shops and taverns and ends with a bossfight. You have to keep track of your action points or your ship will sink. Along the way you get reputation and gold, the amount depends on how far you’ve progressed. Reputation unlocks the possibility to buy new locations each of which has new enemies and cards. Although the reputation unlocks the locations, you still need to buy them with gold. Gold is also used to buy new heroes to play as, while each of them has different abilites and specific cards.

The other gamemode is arena, here you don’t need to sail and control action points, here you only fight enemies and earn gold. This mode is simplier and faster than the main one.

Each of the characters has a story quest which awards you gold and a special skin for the character, plus there are also quests unrelated to specific characters.

The game costs 1€ on google play and has additional in-game purchases which are

  • 2 characters (first mate and admiral)
  • booster (double gold and reputation)
  • gold coins packs

PROS

  • beautiful hand drawn graphics
  • can be played over and over
  • interesting story quests
  • several playable characters with unique gameplay
  • lots of different enemies and cards, randomly generated stages, each playthrough differs from the last

CONS

  • can be pretty grindy without buying the booster (2€)
  • will get repetitive quickly if this is not your thing
  • 2 characters behind a paywall

If pirates are not your thing but you like the gameplay, Slay the Spire and Tacape might be good alternatives.
